How To Insert Puncture Prevention Fluid Into Your Electric Scooter

Getting a tyre puncture while riding an electric scooter can be frustrating and inconvenient. In some situations, you may be forced to push your scooter for long distances to find a technician or repair station to fix the puncture.

Imagine getting stranded in the middle of a forest or on a deserted road with no help nearby. This is where Puncture Prevention Fluid (PPF) becomes a lifesaver.

What Is PPF

PPF works like an automatic puncture repair system by creating a protective layer inside the tyre tube that is always ready to respond whenever a sharp object penetrates the rubber, helping seal punctures instantly and keeping your electric scooter moving.

How PPF Works

The fluid coats the inner surface of the electric scooter tube, and when a puncture occurs, the escaping air forces the liquid toward the hole. Upon contact with outside air, the fluid quickly solidifies and seals the puncture automatically, helping riders continue their journey without immediately stopping for repairs.

Required Tools

Before starting the installation process, you should prepare the necessary tools and materials. These include the PPF fluid, such as Weldtite or Green Slime, a valve core removal tool which is usually supplied with the fluid, a cotton wool bud or another thin blunt implement, and a tyre pump.

Tire Preparation

To begin, position the electric scooter wheel so that the valve sits at roughly the 9 o’clock position or at a 45-degree angle. Next, unscrew the valve cap and gently press the internal valve core using a blunt object until all the air escapes and the tyre becomes completely flat.

Removing Valve Core

Once the tyre is deflated, insert the valve core removal tool into the valve and align it properly with the internal bar. Turn the tool anticlockwise to loosen and remove the valve core completely.

After this, determine the correct amount of fluid needed by using a slime calculator, as overfilling the tube can affect performance.

Attach the tube from the PPF bottle onto the valve and carefully squeeze the recommended amount of fluid into the tyre while checking the measurement scale on the bottle.

Minor leakage during this process is normal and can be cleaned afterwards.

Cleaning The Valve

After inserting the fluid, use a cotton wool bud or a small Allen key to clean inside the valve opening and remove any excess fluid that may block the rubber seal.

Reinstalling Valve Core

Then place the valve core back into the removal tool and carefully screw it back into the valve hole. Tighten it gently using your fingers because excessive force is unnecessary.

Finally, connect the pump and inflate the tyre to the recommended pressure indicated on the sidewall of the tyre before replacing the valve cap.

PPF Limitations

Although PPF is highly effective, it does have limitations.

It is designed to seal punctures up to 3 mm wide and may not work on tyres that are already fully deflated because it relies on wheel rotation and escaping air pressure to seal the hole.

It is also not recommended for tubes that have previously been repaired with patches.

Electric Scooter Tyre Maintenance Tips

Even after installing PPF, regular tyre maintenance remains important.

Riders should continue checking tyre pressure and inspecting the tread for debris such as thorns, nails, or glass to ensure maximum safety and performance.

Punctures are common for most riders, but inserting this powerful tyre sealant can protect your electric scooter to a large extent and reduce unexpected breakdowns.
